About
New York's 9th District
The
State of New York comprises 29 Congressional Districts.
Each district has one Representative. The state was
last redistricted in 2003, following the 2000 Census.
New York's 9th Congressional District is home to a
majority of Middle-Class families with a large population
of Jews from Syria, Egypt, Lebanon, Bukharia and Russia.
The District also boasts a large and strong Chinese
community, as well as Italian and Irish families.
The District includes parts of southern Brooklyn and
south central Queens. The Brooklyn area encompasses
Flatlands, Gerritsen Beach, Marine Park, Midwood,
Mill Basin and Sheepshead Bay. In Queens, the 9th
District includes the neighborhoods of Maspeth, Fresh
Meadows, Glendale, Howard Beach, Kew Gardens, Kew
Gardens Hills, Middle Village, Forest Hills, Ozone
Park, Rego Park, Rockaway Beach, and Woodhaven.
This
District seat is currently (2011) occupied by Rep.
Anthony
Weiner (D-NY).
