Why
Run Now?

A
Message for the Citizens of New York City from Shelomo
Alfassa
September 27, 2010
- After several months of talks
and consideration, I took the first steps toward a
run for U.S. Congress and today I am finalizing an
Exploratory Committee. Over the coming months I will
be elaborating on my political positions which you
will see, are classic traditional American viewpoints.
New
Yorkers, like a majority of Americans, want to know
their communities will be led by men and women who
care and respect there traditional family values,
and these very values won't be disrespected nor overlooked
by their local Congressional representative. Citizens
of New York's 9th District deserve to have their viewpoints
heard and their perspective respected.
Other
than the economy, it is safety that New Yorkers are
concerned about most. New Yorkers are increasingly
falling victim to violent thugs and other criminals
who possess illegal firearms and use them to prey
on the vulnerable and unarmed. New Yorkers want to
know strong laws are in effect which will protect
them and their families from criminals; they hope
for truth-in-sentencing and want to see criminals
locked up--and never released early.
I
feel my viewpoints are what many in New York's 9th
District desire, especially among the large Orthodox
Jewish, Sephardic Jewish, Italian and Irish Catholic
families that live there. The citizens that make up
the 9th District (which includes parts of Brooklyn
and Queens) have traditionally been labeled as a "white
middle class" community of mostly Democrats,
yet, I feel that this is an oft-repeated stereotype.
Today's Democratic party is not the same as the one
from the days of Franklin Delano Roosevelt. And many
members of the Republican party, have demonstrated
they are often Republican in name only.
It's
time for a change.
Extrapolating
on the population of the 9th District based on figures
from the year 2000, there are most likely about 700,000
persons living in the District, and historically,
only about 10% of this population has turned out to
vote. Over the upcoming year, analysis will be made
on a potential run for the 2012 ticket. During this
period, ideas will be raised on how to best galvanize
a larger number of persons to vote, this includes
the hundreds of thousands of citizens which hold traditional
family values. If we rouse our community members to
vote for an Independent, who like them, cares about
families, the environment, conservative values, and
love of country, then we have a great chance to made
a intrinsic change for New York's 9th District.
Respectfully
yours,

Shelomo
