NEW
YORK - (October 2, 2010) Potential House of Representative's
candidate from New York's 9th Congressional District, Shelomo
Alfassa (I-NY), lauds the passing of a bill designed to
fund both medical care and compensation for public safety
first responders, workers, and residents who became ill
after working at Ground Zero.
The
bill will allocate over four billion dollars to fund the
World Trade Center Health Program to provide medical
monitoring and treatment for people with injuries caused
when Arab terrorists attacked New York City on September
11, 2001. In the aftermath of the attack, many people were
exposed to toxins released into the environment; these persons
are registered in the WTC Health Registry.
"Many
people did not get sick for months or years later. Sadly,
it is inevitable that others will become ill in the future,"
said Mr. Alfassa, who himself was a rescue worker at
Ground Zero and is registered in the WTC Health Registry.
The
bill also authorizes $3.5 billion to reopen a victim's compensation
fund which will allow medical claims for injuries sustained
from exposure at Ground Zero to be filed through 2031.
