Shelomo Alfassa is with the US Coast Guard Aux. He has served as Vice Flotilla Commander in Manhattan and was Chief of Staff to 90 members and staff officers. He was also Division MDA (Maritime Domain Awarness) land patrol coordinator. ( More )

He is an Emergency Medical Technician on the State of New York Medical Emergency Response Team & the New York City Medical Reserve Corp.

He is the Public Information Officer and EMS Director for the NYC Amateur Radio Emergency Communication Service (NYC-ARECS), a group made up of licensees of the FCC that specialize in emergency communications. Members provide communications (voice and digital messages) for governments, civil-preparedness and other agencies, during periods of emergencies.

Shelomo served as a sworn federal employee with the US Public Health Service in a join venture with FEMA, as the Founding Executive Officer and Deputy Commander of the Central U.S. National Medical Response Team for Weapons of Mass Destruction (NMRTWMD). this was a federal asset of the USPHS Office of Emergency Preparedness, deployable to national venues where terrorism was a threat.

Prior to being with the NMRTWMD, Shelomo was a member of a USPHS Disaster Medical Assistance team (DMAT). Later he would be the founder and Executive Officer of one of the teams. As the team's XO he was responsible for all the staff--recruiting, hiring, training and outfitting, in an effort to keep the team fully deployable.

Working with the US Public Health Service, Shelomo regulary taught as as educator on the effects of chem/bio weapons, being trained by members of the U.S. Army's USAMRIID and the USMC Chemical/Biological Incident Response Force (CBIRF). He is also a certified OSHA Haz-Mat Incident Commander and a a Member of the International Association of Emergency Managers (IAEM).

He has been an EMT for 25 years (has been BLS, PHTLS and ACLS certified), and has worked professionally in those capacities. He has been certified an an EMT in California, Colorado, Florida and New York; today he remains certified in FL & NY and is a US Coast Guard Certified Emergency Medical Technician.

As a young man, he was a cadet in the Civil Air Patrol (US Air Force Auxiliary), and dedicated many years to volunteering in his community with the American Red Cross. In Florida, he served with the Seminole County Sheriff's Office as a uniformed civilian on patrol and as an Auxiliary Communications Officer with both Seminole County and Orange County Amateur Radio Emergency Services.
